How Does Your Vision Change Over Time Following LASIK?

San Francisco, Oakland & San Jose, California

LASIK vision correction enjoys some of the highest approval ratings of any surgical procedure, with approximately 90 to 95% success rate. In some studies, even those who were not 100% satisfied with the results would elect to redo the surgery again if they had to. At Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley, LASIK is the most common procedure we offer and improvements in LASIK technology minimize risks and enhance your vision results.

Post-op

Immediately following surgery, you will notice a vast improvement in your vision. Even though you may experience some discomfort for approximately two weeks post-op, your visual acuity will be much improved. Your eyes may sting and feel gritty as the anesthesia wears off, but be careful not to rub them. Wear sunglasses even if it is not very sunny and keep your eyes moist with synthetic tears. Plenty of rest and minimal computer and television time are also highly recommended to get you back to normal as quickly as possible.

Six months

After about six months, you will probably experience the total results of your LASIK vision correction procedure. While Dr. Kawesch's goal is to restore you to 20/20 visual acuity, this is not always possible depending on where you started. Based on his vast experience, Dr. Kawesch will be able to give you a realistic goal for your vision correction ahead of time. It is important to have realistic expectations so that even if perfect vision is not obtained, improved vision is definitely something you can enjoy.

Complications

As with any surgical procedure, complications with the surgery may arise. Some of these include:

  • Dry eyes
  • Over/under correction
  • Glare and Halos
  • Tissue healing problems

Not all LASIK vision centers are the same; it takes an experienced physician to give you the best chances for a successful outcome. Dr. Kawesch has helped more than 40,000 people attain their vision goals. You should not base your opinions about LASIK on other people's experience. A physician who has performed thousands of procedures is better prepared to deliver a truly customized LASIK procedure.

You want to choose a center that offers the most advanced state-of-the-art LASIK laser in order to reduce your risk of complications. Today's best lasers are unparalleled in precision and utilize features like Wavefront-mapping and eye tracking.
