Tax-Free LASIK
San Francisco, Bay Area and San Jose, California
Many people who want LASIK worry they cannot afford it. However, it may be possible for you to save up to 40% on LASIK by using pre-tax money from your flexible spending account (FSA).
Steps to take to find out more about tax-free LASIK include:
- Schedule your free LASIK exam with one of the doctors at the Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley to find out if you are a LASIK candidate
- Find out the deadline for open enrollment at your company to sign up for an FSA
- Find out the cost of your LASIK procedure to figure out how much money to put into your FSA on each paycheck
About FSAs
A medical flexible spending account is an IRS-approved, tax-exempt account that is used exclusively for medical expenses, including laser eye surgery. The amount of money you choose to place in your FSA is deducted from your gross income before taxes are taken out. LASIK is then paid for with the tax-free income you have already earned. The funds placed in your FSA are exempt from federal income, Medicare, and Social Security taxes. This money that you do not have to pay out in taxes can be used to pay for your LASIK procedure.
Flex spending accounts do not allow you to roll over money to the following calendar year. Because of this, many patients use the money in the FSA on elective medical procedures at the beginning of the year, or wait until the very end of the year so that they do not forfeit the money. You may contact the Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley to find out more about applying your FDA money to your LASIK procedure.
