LASIK Vision Correction Post-op Care
San Francisco, Oakland & San Jose, California
"After validating Dr. Kawesch's reputation I decided to go for it. No pain, very quick, professional and supportive pre-and post care after the procedure. In fact, I drove back to the office the following morning without glasses or lenses! My advice: use Dr. Kawesch and do it!"
-Dave M.
The time you'll spend in our suite for LASIK vision correction surgery is short - you should be done with both eyes in about half an hour. The corneal reshaping part takes only minutes, while the rest of the time is spent on achieving the proper measurements and ensuring the laser has all of your accurate vision data.
After laser vision correction, many of our patients are able to see clearly right away. There's a chance you'll be able to read the clock on the wall and greet your friends or family with clear vision. For others it may take just a short amount of time to regain your final vision results. You are encouraged to go home and take a nap to rest your eyes for a few hours after the procedure.
Get to your LASIK procedure in style. In keeping with Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley's commitment to comfort, we offer luxury limo service to get you home safely following your refractive surgery procedure. Contact us for more details.
Here's a summary of what you can expect after your LASIK vision correction procedure:
- Immediately following LASIK, you may or may not be able to see clearly right away. While some patients experience temporary fluctuations in vision, sensitivity to light, glare and halos, others will have completely clear vision. You can expect stinging, foreign body sensations, mild soreness and discomfort, and possibly dry eyes.
- You will be asked to rest your eyes and maybe nap for a few hours after the procedure.
- You will come in for post-operative exams the day after LASIK, at the 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 1-year marks.
- Many patients will have functional, clear vision the very next day. For others, especially nearsighted patients in their late 30s or older and those with presbyopia, it is common to experience trouble reading for a few days (easily addressed with reading glasses).
- Farsighted patients may have trouble viewing distant objects for a short period of time.
- Your surgeon will prescribe soothing eye drops to help with discomfort and encourage healing.
- You will be asked to avoid rubbing the eye during healing, to keep eyes protected in sunlight, and to refrain from activities that might cause injury to the eye.
- Your surgeon will go over all of the potential LASIK complications and side effects and ask that you report any unusual vision changes.
- You are asked to report all side effects to your surgeon, no matter how insignificant you feel they might be
LASIK surgeons can't promise or guarantee results - vision correction is not an exact science, and there are too many variables that prohibit doctors from accurately predicting your LASIK outcome. Although many LASIK vision correction patients have achieved perfect vision following the procedure, not every patient will be able to achieve 20/20 vision.
