LADARVision

All lasers are not the same. The LADARVision system employs an incredibly small, narrow laser called a Gaussian beam. The tip is horseshoe-shaped, with smooth round corners, unlike other laser beam tips that are flat. The Gaussian beam help to produce a smooth surface on your cornea.

Eye movement

Eye movement is always a challenge during surgery. Everybody's eyes move about 100 times a second. These involuntary movements can interfere with the placement and accuracy of the laser beam. Therefore a laser's tracking system must be fast enough to record these movements, and advanced enough to constantly monitor them.

The LADARVision system addresses the obstacle of involuntary eye movement with its incredibly fast and accurate laser radar eye tracking system. LADARVision adopts a concept that was originally created by NASA. It tracks eye movements at 4,000 times a second, or 33 times faster than any other tracker. This allows the LADARVision system to compensate for eye movement, and is the only system that the Food and Drug Administration approved to improve the accuracy of corneal shaping.

Precision

What's more, is that the LADARVision system is a closed-loop tracker, meaning that the information about eye movement is continuously relayed to the system. Because the system constantly compensates for eye movement, the system further ensures accurate placement of the laser beam. This highly developed laser radar tracker actually tells the laser where your eye is going to be when the beam is sent. So if you plan on undergoing a laser vision correction procedure, you can feel confident that any movement your eye makes during corrective eye surgery the procedure will not affect the precision of the laser beam.

The Treatment Zone

The LADARVision can extend to a full 8 mm treatment area, with a blend zone that can stretch to 9 mm. This is larger than any other excimer laser or optic zone on the market today.

The optic zone should match or exceed your pupil size when measured in dim light. This is essential because at night when your pupils expand, you will still be able to see through a fully corrected cornea. A large optic zone, like that of LADARVision, will minimize any chance of glare, halos or starbursts at night. So if you have larger pupils or are concerned with night vision, fear no more.

The main benefits of LADARVision include:

  • Increased precision
  • Higher rate of success (20/20 vision is achieved 98 percent of the time)
  • Fewer nighttime side effects
