At the Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley, we offer Custom LASIK. That is a far more accurate procedure than the early LASIK surgeries done in the mid-1990s. What makes it more accurate is the very detailed diagnosis of your eyes done beforehand. Early LASIK used the same diagnostic method that is used to determine a glasses prescription. Custom LASIK uses Wavefront technology to map the microscopically tiny contours of each eye.

No two human eyes are the same. Your two eyes will have slightly different treatments and nobody else will ever have those exact same treatments. Your Custom LASIK surgery will correct more than just the defects which cause nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. These defects are known as the three lower order aberrations.

Higher Order Aberrations
Custom LASIK corrects the tiny defects which cause poor night vision - the higher order aberrations. While there are just the three lower order aberrations, there are many higher order aberrations and more being discovered all the time. Some of them have names such as:

• Halos
• Starburst
• Ghosting
• Coma
• Trefoil

Others are named by mathematical expressions. When your Wavefront diagnosis is made, the computer shows your eyes as colored three-dimensional topographical maps. This data is used to guide your treating laser and gives you a correction of both lower and higher order aberrations.

Early LASIK procedures gave far less correction - only as much as a pair of glasses can give. They left people with night vision problems because they did not correct the higher order aberrations. But your Custom LASIK will remove most of the tiny contour errors which cause those night vision problems. You will have clear vision and also better quality vision.
